Banbury Madni Masjid is committed to supporting the local community through worship, learning, connection and positive activities for people of all ages. Community wellbeing is not only about religious services; it is also about creating opportunities for children, young people and families to spend time together, learn new skills and build connections.
Our Banbury community activities aim to provide welcoming opportunities for local people to participate, connect and enjoy positive experiences. One recent example was a football coaching session for under-10 boys, giving young participants the opportunity to learn football skills and enjoy playing together
Sport can be a positive way of bringing children together. It gives young people an opportunity to be active, learn skills and enjoy time with others in a structured environment.
Banbury Madni Masjid recently supported a football session for under-10 boys, with a Banbury United coach helping to lead the activities. The session was very popular, with 16 boys taking part.
The focus was on keeping the session enjoyable while introducing and practising basic football techniques. Around 30 minutes were dedicated to themed coaching and technical activities, followed by approximately 30 minutes of match play.
This type of activity also fits naturally alongside the mosque's wider sporting initiatives. For example, Banbury Madni Masjid already provides weekly boys' football sessions for older boys, demonstrating an ongoing interest in creating positive sporting opportunities within the community.

The boys started with a short warm-up before moving into technical football exercises. This provided an active and structured beginning to the session.
The coaching included basic skills such as dribbling and passing, giving the boys an opportunity to practise their technique through football exercises.
Short games formed part of the session, helping the boys apply what they had been practising while keeping the activity enjoyable and engaging.
The final part of the session focused on playing football matches. With around 30 minutes available for match play, the boys could enjoy the game together and use their football skills in a more natural playing environment.
The football session was about more than simply learning football techniques. It provided an opportunity for the boys to:
Activities such as these can help create opportunities for children to meet others, participate in something they enjoy and feel connected to their local community.
The session was supported by a Banbury United coach, providing structured football coaching and practical guidance throughout the activity..
Having a coach involved helped give the session a clear structure, combining technical exercises with games and match play. The aim was to make football skills accessible and enjoyable for the boys while giving them plenty of opportunity to participate.
We are grateful for the support that helped make the session an enjoyable experience for the young participants.
16 boys attended the football session, reflecting strong interest in this type of children's activity.
The popularity of the session highlights the value of providing positive sporting opportunities for local children. It also shows the potential for community activities in Banbury to bring young people together around something they enjoy.
Rather than focusing only on competition, the session provided a balance between learning, participation and simply enjoying the game.
Banbury Madni Masjid aims to be more than a place of worship. It seeks to provide opportunities for people to learn, connect, participate and support one another within the local community.
Our wider vision includes supporting local families, encouraging young people and creating opportunities for community connection. The mosque's existing community programme includes events, educational activities, youth development opportunities and welfare initiatives
Community activities can take many forms. For children and young people, positive activities such as sport can provide a welcoming way to participate, meet others and develop interests outside the classroom.
The football session is one example of how activities can create opportunities for local young people to come together in a positive environment.
Young people benefit from having opportunities to participate in activities that interest them.
Football, cricket, educational programmes and children's events can each offer different ways for young people to become involved in their local community.
The mosque's As'Sunnah Academy also provides regular Islamic education for children, showing another aspect of the opportunities available to younger members of the community.
Together, these types of activities can encourage:
The aim is not to make promises about specific outcomes, but to provide children and families with opportunities to take part in positive community experiences.
Banbury Madni Masjid welcomes opportunities that help strengthen connections within the local community.
