Dementia Drop-In Clinic

Supporting Individuals and Families Affected by Dementia

Banbury Madni Masjid and Umar Centre are pleased to host a Dementia Drop-In Clinic, providing an opportunity for individuals, families, and carers to access valuable information, support, and guidance regarding dementia.

Dementia affects not only those living with the condition but also the family members, friends, and caregivers who support them. Understanding the early signs of dementia and knowing where to seek help can make a significant difference in improving quality of life and ensuring individuals receive the care and support they need.

This clinic aims to raise awareness within the local community and provide a welcoming space where attendees can speak directly with trained advisors, ask questions, and learn about the services available to support those affected by dementia.

Understanding Dementia and Its Impact

Dementia is a progressive condition that affects memory, thinking, communication, and daily functioning. It can have a significant impact on individuals and their families, particularly as symptoms develop over time.

Research has shown that people from ethnic minority communities can face additional challenges in accessing information, support, and early diagnosis. Events such as this clinic help bridge that gap by making support services more accessible and easier to understand.

The clinic will provide practical advice and information to help families better understand dementia and the resources available to them.

Recognising the Early Signs of Dementia

Early recognition is essential for accessing appropriate support and care. Some common signs of dementia may include:

  • Memory loss affecting daily life
  • Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
  • Challenges completing familiar tasks
  • Problems following conversations or finding the right words
  • Confusion about time, dates, or locations
  • Noticeable changes in mood or behaviour

If you have concerns about yourself, a family member, or a loved one, attending the clinic can help you gain clarity and direction.

Meet Local Dementia Advisors

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet local dementia advisors:

The advisors will be available to:

  • Answer questions about dementia
  • Provide guidance on available support services
  • Offer information about diagnosis pathways
  • Signpost individuals to local and national resources
  • Support carers and family members
