Banbury Madni Masjid is pleased to host a dedicated Workshop for SEN Madrasa Teachers, providing an opportunity for madrasa educators to develop greater understanding, awareness and practical strategies for supporting children with additional learning needs.
The workshop will take place on Friday 21st August 2026, from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM at the Banbury Madni Masjid Lecture Theatre. The session will be led by Dr Yasmin Bador, Educational Psychologist, and will combine a presentation with an interactive Q&A session.
As Islamic educators, madrasa teachers have an important role in creating an environment where every child feels welcomed, understood and able to participate in learning. Children may experience learning differently because of autism, ADHD, dyslexia or other individual needs. Developing awareness of these differences can help teachers respond with greater patience, confidence and understanding.
The workshop will explore autism and how it may affect a child's experience of learning, communication, social interaction and classroom routines.
For madrasa teachers, understanding these differences can help create a more inclusive learning environment. Simple adjustments to communication, instructions, classroom routines and activities may help children feel more comfortable and engaged. The aim is not to place labels on children, but to understand their individual strengths, needs and ways of learning.
The session will also look at ADHD in the classroom, including some of the challenges children may experience with concentration, organisation, impulsivity and maintaining attention.
Teachers will have an opportunity to consider practical approaches that can support children during Islamic studies, Qur'an learning and other madrasa activities.
Every child learns differently. The workshop will provide an opportunity to increase awareness of dyslexia and other learning needs, helping teachers recognise when a child may benefit from different approaches to teaching and communication.
Understanding individual learning needs can help educators create a classroom environment that is more supportive, patient and inclusive.
Another important area covered during the workshop will be challenging behaviours. Teachers will have the opportunity to explore possible reasons behind behaviours and consider constructive ways of responding.
Rather than focusing only on the behaviour itself, the session encourages educators to consider what a child may be communicating through their actions and how the learning environment can support them.
Following the main presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to take part in a Q&A session with Dr Yasmin Bador. This provides madrasa teachers with a chance to raise questions, discuss classroom experiences and gain practical insights relevant to their own teaching environments.
The workshop complements Banbury Madni Masjid's wider commitment to Islamic education, teacher development and community support. The mosque's As'Sunnah Academy provides age-appropriate Islamic education, including Qur'an, Salah and Islamic studies, with qualified teachers and safeguarding training.
Teachers and volunteers can also explore other educational and safeguarding opportunities through the mosque's wider Events & Courses programme.

This workshop is an opportunity for madrasa teachers to learn from an experienced educational psychologist, share questions and strengthen their approach to supporting children with diverse needs.
