Come Together, Share Food and Build Community Bonds

The Umar Education and Welfare Centre warmly invites sisters and children to a special Potluck Gathering on Friday, 10 July 2026 at 6:00 PM. This community event is an opportunity to come together, share delicious homemade food, meet others and enjoy an evening centred around friendship, generosity and togetherness.

Food has always had a special way of bringing people together. A shared meal creates opportunities for conversation, strengthens relationships and helps build a welcoming community where everyone feels included. This potluck gathering is designed to provide sisters and children with a comfortable environment to connect, enjoy a variety of dishes and spend meaningful time together.

The event is for sisters and children only and will take place at the Umar Education and Welfare Centre , 43 West Street, Banbury, OX16 3HA.

Bring a Dish and Share the Joy

Everyone attending is encouraged to bring one dish suitable for approximately five to six people. The dish can be anything you enjoy preparing and sharing. Whether it is a homemade curry, rice dish, savoury snack, traditional family recipe, dessert or sweet treat, all contributions are welcome.

The idea behind a potluck is simple: each person brings something to share, creating a wonderful selection of food for everyone to enjoy. It is also a lovely opportunity to discover different dishes, exchange food ideas and experience the variety of tastes and traditions found within the local community.

You do not need to prepare anything complicated. The focus of the gathering is not on creating the perfect dish but on participating, sharing and enjoying the company of others.

Inspired by the Blessing of Eating Together

The spirit of this gathering reflects the importance of sharing meals and strengthening bonds within the community. The event poster highlights the narration:

“Eat together and do not eat separately, for the blessing is in being together.”

This message beautifully reflects the purpose of the evening. The potluck is about more than food; it is about creating connections, welcoming one another and making time for positive community interaction.

In busy everyday life, opportunities to sit together, talk and build genuine relationships can sometimes be limited. Community gatherings such as this provide a valuable space for sisters to meet, reconnect with familiar faces and welcome those who may be attending for the first time.

A Welcoming Evening for Sisters and Children

The Potluck Gathering has been planned specifically for sisters and children, creating a comfortable and family-friendly atmosphere. Mothers can attend with their children while enjoying the opportunity to socialise with other women from the Banbury community.

For children, community gatherings can also be valuable social experiences. They provide opportunities to meet other children, form friendships and develop a positive sense of connection with the local Muslim community.

For sisters who are new to the area or have not attended previous community activities, the potluck offers an easy and relaxed way to become involved. Sharing a meal naturally creates conversation and helps people get to know one another without the formality of a structured programme.

Strengthening the Banbury Muslim Community

Strong communities grow through regular opportunities for people to meet, communicate and support one another. Social gatherings can play an important role alongside educational and religious activities by helping individuals and families develop lasting connections.

The Umar Education and Welfare Centre continues to provide opportunities for community members to learn, meet and participate in activities together. This special potluck evening is another chance for sisters and children to enjoy meaningful time in a friendly local setting.

Whether you are bringing a favourite family recipe, a simple savoury dish or a delicious dessert, your contribution will become part of a shared community table.
