Little Steps in the Footsteps of Ahlul Bayt

Children learn some of life’s most valuable lessons through stories, examples and meaningful experiences. Insight to Rabi ul Awwal – Little Steps in the Footsteps of Ahlul Bayt is a special children’s event designed to introduce young attendees to important lessons of love, good character, remembrance and reflection in an engaging and age-appropriate environment.

Taking place on Sunday, 9 August 2026, the event will bring children together for an afternoon of storytelling, remembrance and reflection at the Umar Education & Welfare Centre in Banbury.

Rabi ul Awwal is a significant time in the Islamic calendar and provides families with an opportunity to help children develop a deeper connection with the life, teachings and beautiful character of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Through carefully presented stories and reflections, children can begin to understand how Islamic values can become part of their everyday lives.

The event will run from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM, offering a focused and welcoming session for children to listen, learn and reflect together.

Helping Children Connect with Islamic History

For children, Islamic history becomes more meaningful when it is presented through stories they can understand and remember. The Insight to Rabi ul Awwal event aims to create an educational experience where children can learn through storytelling rather than simply memorising information.

Stories can introduce young minds to qualities such as kindness, patience, generosity, honesty, courage, respect and compassion. These values are not only important topics to learn about but also qualities children can practise at home, at school and within the wider community.

The event’s theme, Little Steps in the Footsteps of Ahlul Bayt, encourages children to understand that developing good character happens gradually. Small acts of kindness, respect for parents, helping others, speaking truthfully and showing patience are all meaningful steps in a child’s personal development.

A Day of Storytelling, Remembrance and Reflection

The event has been designed around three important elements: storytelling, remembrance and reflection.

Through storytelling, children can hear meaningful accounts and lessons connected to the Islamic tradition in a way that captures their attention and imagination. Stories have the ability to make values easier to understand, particularly for younger audiences.

Remembrance provides an opportunity to develop love and connection with the Islamic tradition. By participating in a shared community setting, children can experience learning as something positive, warm and meaningful.

Reflection helps children think about what they have learned and consider how those lessons may apply to their own behaviour and relationships. Even simple questions such as How can I be kinder?, How can I help someone?, or How should I respond when I feel angry? can encourage valuable personal growth.

Learning Values for Everyday Life

The lessons associated with the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and Ahlul Bayt offer valuable examples of character and conduct. For children, these teachings can become practical guidance for everyday situations.

Learning about compassion can encourage a child to care for someone who is upset. Learning about generosity can inspire sharing. Understanding patience can help children respond more calmly when something does not go their way. Learning about respect can improve the way they interact with parents, teachers, siblings and friends.

The Insight to Rabi ul Awwal event aims to connect these timeless values with experiences that children recognise from their own lives.

By making Islamic learning relatable and accessible, events like this can support families in nurturing faith, character and a positive sense of belonging from an early age.

Creating Positive Islamic Experiences for Children

Children’s Islamic education extends beyond formal lessons. Community gatherings can play an important role in helping young people associate learning about their faith with friendship, warmth and positive experiences.

This event gives children an opportunity to learn alongside others in a welcoming community environment. Listening to stories together, taking part in remembrance and reflecting on important lessons can help make Islamic learning memorable.

It also provides an opportunity for children to see themselves as active members of the Muslim community. Regular participation in educational and community activities can help young people develop confidence, friendships and a stronger connection with their faith and local community.
