As Ramadan ends and Eid al-Fitr 2026 approaches, Banbury Madni Masjid invites you to complete your worship with two beautiful acts of giving: Fitrana (Zakat al-Fitr) and Eid Gifts.
Ramadan is a sacred month of fasting, worship, and spiritual renewal. When a fast is intentionally broken without a valid reason, Islam requires a specific form of expiation known as Kaffarah.
In these challenging times, many families in our community struggle with access to clean water. Banbury Madni Masjid is launching a Water Pump Appeal to support those in need.
Fitrana, also known as Zakat al-Fitr, is a mandatory charity given at the end of Ramadan for the love of Allah. It is due on every Muslim — men, women, and children — who has food in excess of their needs. Its purpose is to purify the fasting person and ensure that the less fortunate can also enjoy the occasion of Eid.
This charity must be paid before the Eid al-Fitr prayer so that those in need can use it in time for the celebrations.
In the UK, the standard Fitrana amount for 2026 is typically around £5 per person. This reflects the cost of providing staple food — such as rice, flour, or dates — for someone in need. You should pay this for each member of your household including dependents.
By giving Fitrana, you help ensure that vulnerable individuals and families have:
Fitrana demonstrates compassion and strengthens community bonds as we help others rejoice in the blessings of Allah.
Giving Fitrana and Eid gifts is more than charity — it’s a spiritual act that:
By sharing even a small gift or fulfilling your Fitrana obligation, you help make Eid meaningful for families, children, and elders who courageously persevere through hardship.
Eid Gifts are a cherished tradition and a Sunnah practice that bring smiles to children and families on Eid al-Fitr. While not obligatory like Fitrana, giving Eid gifts spreads joy to those who may otherwise miss out on the festivities.
Our global Eid Gifts programme focuses especially on orphans and vulnerable children who face poverty, conflict, or hardship.
