Patience, Trust, and Divine Will – A Reflection for Jumʼah
Patience (Sabr) holds a profound place in our faith. Allah ﷻ reminds us in the Qur’an:
“And give glad tidings to the patient.”
(Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 155)
This verse carries timeless wisdom, assuring us that those who remain steadfast during trials and hardships will be rewarded. Life is filled with tests, and patience becomes the key that unlocks the doors of relief and divine mercy.
Mian Muhammad Bakhsh beautifully expressed:
“Be patient, patience will be rewarded, so the Holy Book informs us. Patience unlocks all the doors of difficulties.”
Through these words, we are reminded that enduring hardships with faith and patience leads to Allah’s blessings.
Another timeless teaching comes from the words:
“The gardener’s job is to water the plants with skin bags full of water; it is up to the Lord to allow fruits and flowers to grow or not to grow.”
This metaphor perfectly illustrates the balance between human effort and divine decree. Just as a gardener waters the plants with dedication, we too must strive with sincerity in our lives, worship, and good deeds. Yet, the results—the growth, the success, the outcomes—rest entirely in the hands of Allah Almighty.
This is the essence of Tawakkul (trust in Allah):
True faith lies in combining effort with trust, never despairing in challenges, and always relying on Allah’s wisdom.
As we gather for Jum’ah, let us remember the blessings promised to those who remain patient and trust in Allah.
