My Journey to Islam – A Story of Friendship and Faith

Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim

Every journey to Islam is unique, filled with moments of reflection, influence, and divine guidance. This is the story of a sister whose path to embracing Islam was shaped by friendship, patience, and the mercy of Allah ﷻ.

A Friendship That Changed Everything

The journey began in 6th form, where a strong friendship blossomed. Her best friend, a Muslim, had a profound influence on her behavior, character, and outlook on life.

She had never been close to Muslims before, but over time she noticed positive changes in herself—becoming a better person almost overnight.

On her very first visit, her friend’s mother made a heartfelt remark:

“I have a feeling she will be Muslim one day.”

Embracing Islam

In 2021, she decided to take her Shahada. Though filled with happiness, she was initially worried about sharing the news with her family.

By 2023, when her Nikkah was planned, she finally told them.

Her mother’s first question was:

“Why do you have to be their religion—why can’t he be ours?”

This opened up a deep conversation. She reminded her family that they did not actively practice or believe in God. She also pointed out the double standards—her sister had christened her children without being questioned, yet Islam was viewed differently.

Over time, her family saw the love, respect, and happiness she found with her husband and in-laws. Their fears, shaped by media portrayals, faded when they realized she was still the same person—only now, a Muslim version of herself.

A Night of Reflection

Her Shahada was not prompted by a dramatic life event but by a simple, profound moment.

One night in 2021, a friend made Dua for her when she was unwell. The next morning, she felt an overwhelming pull towards Islam. She went to her best friend’s house and took her Shahada in her bedroom.

“Allahu Akbar! I have never regretted the decision I made. It’s a journey—sometimes you worry you’re not doing enough, but Allah SWT knows best.”

Advice to Reverts

Her message to others is clear:

  • There is no perfect time to revert—every time is the right time.
  • Don’t worry about being the “perfect Muslim.”
  • Islam is a journey, and each step is towards pleasing Allah SWT.

The Role of Banbury Madni Masjid

Since moving to Banbury, Banbury Madni Masjid has been a great support system in her journey, offering guidance, community, and friendship.

“Banbury Madni Mosque has been a massive support to my journey since moving to Banbury, and I have made some incredible friendships. Jazak Allah.”
